1. Nissan sues India over $770 million investment dispute
Japanese automaker Nissan has begun international arbitration against India to seek over $770 million in a dispute over unpaid incentives, according to documents reviewed by Reuters. In a legal notice sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, Nissan sought payment of incentives due from Tamil Nadu government as part of an agreement to set up a car manufacturing plant.

2. IAF Achieves New Milestone in Air-to-air Refuelling
Adding yet another feather to its cap, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Thursday successfully conducted its first air-to-air refuelling mission using an Embraer aircraft. An IAF’s Embraer transport aircraft, specialised to conduct Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) function, carried out air-to-air refuelling enhancing the aircraft’s endurance.
This was for the first time that mid-air refuelling was carried out by the Embraer.

3. Maharashtra most corrupt, Delhi tops in crimes: NCRB
Maharashtra has earned itself the dubious distinction of being the “most corrupt state” for the third year in a row. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, which was released it revealed that there were 1,016 cases of corruption registered in 2016 in the state, while Odisha was second on the list with 569 cases. Of the total corruption cases in India, 22.9% were from Maharashtra. However, the only positive bit was that the cases declined from 1,279 in 2015 and 1,316 in 2014.
On the crimes front, Delhi was the most unsafe among 19 major cities in the country, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of rapes reported, 33 per cent of crimes against women and the highest crime rate in 2016. Mumbai was third on the list behind Bangalore, with 39,617 cases, but the number declined as compared to 2015 when 42,940 cases were registered.

4. Madame Tussauds wax museum opens its doors to Delhi
India's first Madame Tussauds wax museum opened its doors to Delhi today (December 1) with 50 life-like figures spanning across history, sports, music, films and politics, for the public at the iconic Regal building in central Delhi.
Madame Tussauds has been a successful tourist attraction in places like London, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, San Francisco and Hong Kong. Its maiden facility here has wax statues of Indian personalities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cinematic icon Amitabh Bachchan and Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, along with many Hollywood celebrities.

5. Five-time world champion MC Mary Kom resigns as Indian boxing's national observer
Five-time world champion M C Mary Kom has resigned as the national observer for Indian boxing after Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore made it clear that active sportspersons will not be considered for the position.

6.  Flagging Off Ceremony : Army Organised Capacity Building Tour for Sarpanchs of Kishtwar to New Delhi and Agra
As part of the Indian Army’s ongoing outreach programme to foster a sense of belongingness and spirit of national integration across the entire swathe of the country, a Capacity Building Tour, comprising of 22 Sarpanchs from Kishtwar District of J&K to New Delhi and Agra is being organised from 01 Dec to 10 Dec 17, under Sadhbhavana. This tour is aimed to inculcate a sense of affinity and to provide the Sarpanchs with a vivid outlook on the latest developments in the field of agriculture and horticulture and Panchayati Raj System, in other parts of the country.

7. President of India inaugurates Hornbill Festival and State Formation Day celebrations of Nagaland
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Hornbill Festival and State Formation Day celebrations of Nagaland today (December 1, 2017) in Kisama.
The Hornbill Festival is the perfect showcase of rich Naga culture and traditions, preserved over the years in the form of music, dance and food. The Hornbill Festival at Kisama and the International Music Festival represent the diversity of Naga society.

8. Cabinet approves setting up of National Nutrition Mission
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi yesterday has approved setting up of National Nutrition Mission (NNM) with a three year budget of Rs.9046.17 crore commencing from 2017-18.
1.    The NNM, as an apex body, will monitor, supervise, fix targets and guide the nutrition related interventions across the Ministries.
2.    The proposal consists of
•         mapping of various Schemes contributing towards addressing malnutrition
•         introducing a very robust convergence mechanism
•         ICT based Real Time Monitoring system
•         incentivizing States/UTs for meeting the targets
•         incentivizing Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) for using IT based tools
•         eliminating registers used by AWWs
•         introducing measurement of height of children at the Anganwadi Centres (AWCs)
•         Social Audits
•         setting-up Nutrition Resource Centres, involving masses through Jan Andolan for their participation on nutrition through various activities, among others.

9. Hindi Pakhwara Prize Distribution Ceremony
 Lt Gen Harpal Singh, AVSM, VSM. Director General of Military Training on 01 Dec 2017 gave away the prizes to the participants of Hindi Pakawara. The prize distribution ceremony was organised by Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army) for rewarding the prize winners of various Hindi competitions organised between 01 to 15 September this year. A total of 71 participants were awarded cash prizes and certificates. Large number of personnels working at Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army) participated in various events. During the Hindi Pakhwara various competitions like Essay writing, Travlogue, Drafting, Debate and Poem Recitation are organised every year to encourage defence personnels and civilians to work in Rajbhasha Hindi.

10. Shri S K Chourasia appointed as DGOF and Chairman of Ordnance Factory Board

Shri Sunil Kumar Chourasia, IOFS, has been appointed as the new Director General of Ordnance Factories (DGOF) and Chairman of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) w.e.f. 1st December, 2017. Previously, he was Member, OFB and was in charge of Material & Components division.

Graduating in Mechanical Engineering from Jabalpur and thereafter earning an M Tech from IIT Kanpur, Shri Chourasia joined Indian Ordnance Factories Service in 1981.
He was deputed by the Government of India to United Kingdom for an MBA. Further, Shri Chourasia was in the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi during in-service training and was awarded an M Phil.

11. Ministry of Defence to launch a special campaign to celebrate Armed Forces Flag Day and encourage the public to contribute towards the welfare of disabled ex-servicemen, war widows & children of martyrs
Since 1949, 7th December is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day throughout the country to honour the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought on our borders to safeguard the country's honour. The aim of the campaign to generate awareness about the ‘Armed Forces Flag Day Fund’ and encourage people to contribute generously. Several cashless payment methods have been setup and made available.

12. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) signs two Indian Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) in November, 2017
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has entered into 2 Bilateral Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) during the month of November, 2017. These Agreements are the first ever Bilateral APAs with The Netherlands. With the signing of these Agreements, the total number of APAs entered into by the CBDT has gone up to 186. This includes 171 Unilateral APAs and 15 Bilateral APAs.
These two APAs pertain to the Electronics and Technology sectors of the economy. The international transactions covered in these agreements include Distribution, Provision of Marketing Support Services, Provision of Business Support Services, etc.

13. CWPRS Pune and CSMRS New Delhi get ISO Certification
Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune a subordinate office under Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has been awarded with ISO 9001:2015 certificate for providing R&D support and consultancy through specific/basic hydraulic research for project related to water resources power and coastal engineering.
Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS), New Delhi an attached office of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has been awarded with ISO 9001:2008 certificate for undertaking investigation, consultancy and research in the areas of soil mechanics and foundation engineering, Rock engineering, Concrete technology and allied areas and sharing of knowledge.

14. UP Singh takes over as New Union Water Resources Secretary
Shri Upendra Prasad Singh, IAS (OR:85) assumed the charge of Secretary Ministry of Water Resources, River Development in New Delhi today. He will also hold additional charge of CEO, National Mission for Clean Ganga.
Shri Singh who originally hails from Bihar is a mechanical engineer-turned IAS. He has served in various Ministries such as Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and also as MD of Oil India Ltd.
